Land North of Price Way, Carterton

Thank you for visiting our consultation website for the proposed development on land north of Price Way, Carterton. Here you can find information about the emerging proposals, why the site is being considered for development, answers to frequently asked questions, and how you can share feedback.

We are consulting on proposals to deliver up to 165 new homes, public open space and play areas, and new football pitches with supporting facilities on land north of Price Way, Carterton.

The vision

Our vision is to create a high-quality new neighbourhood that provides much-needed homes and delivers long-term benefits for new and existing residents. The development is designed to sit naturally between Carterton and the surrounding countryside, with a clear and well-defined edge that respects and complements the nearby Shilton Conservation Area.

Site context

The site is north of Price Way and east of the B4020 Shilton Road. It extends to approximately 17.96 hectares, with Carterton Football Club to the east and agricultural land to the north. A substantial belt of trees runs along the western boundary and a discontinuous hedgerow subdivides the site.

Why development is being proposed here

There is an identified need for new housing in and around Carterton. West Oxfordshire District Council has identified a need for new homes over the coming years due to population growth and rising housing costs.

At present, the Council does not have enough identified housing sites to meet its five-year housing land supply requirement. This means additional sites will need to come forward to provide the homes people need, alongside work on the emerging Local Plan which is considering where future growth could take place across the District.

Carterton is identified in the Local Plan as a suitable location for new development, with a good range of services, facilities and transport links. The site is a sustainable location that naturally extends the built form of Carterton, being enclosed by the town’s development edge to the south and east, with opportunities to maintain separation from Shilton.
